Gratiot Wind Farm is a Go

In about a year’s time, Gratiot County will have the largest wind farm in the state.

Completing the last and most important of hurdles, Invenergy Wind’s development manager Kevin Parzyck announced Friday that earlier this week, the Michigan Public Service Commission approved the company’s 20-year power purchase agreement with Detroit Edison.

In partnership with its affiliate Gratiot County Wind LLC, the company has completed lease agreements with more than 240 landowners in the Breckenridge area for a 30,000-acre wind farm.

Greater Gratiot Development President Don Schurr said the engineering analysis and permitting process are in progress. He expects groundbreaking to take place in early November.

The project is expected to create more than 150 construction jobs and, to operate the wind farm, 15 full-time high-tech workers will be hired.
