Gratiot County is part of the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! service area. Gratiot’s local Michigan Works! office is located at the former GTEC building in Alma at 327 E. Center St. or via phone at 989.466.4832.

Employer resources that Michigan Works! offers include:

  • Incumbent Worker training dollars: Funds that can be used for training those particular employees who have an identified “skills gap,” and are at risk of being laid off if these skills are not attained.
  • Going Pro: Skilled Trades Training Fund: The STTF provides competitive awards for employer-responsive training that enhances talent, productivity, and employment retention, while increasing the quality and competitiveness of Michigan’s businesses. The STTF ensures Michigan’s employers have access to the talent they need to compete and grow, and individuals have the skills they need for in-demand jobs.   • Staffing assistance: Includes benchmarking job-related skills, researching competitive wages for your area/industry, assisting in creating job descriptions, utilizing assessment and screening tools, and mapping career pathways and talent pipelines.
  • Talent attraction: Includes posting job orders on mitalent.org, distributing employer applications, organizing job fairs, organizing Employer of the Day program, and searching for resumes on mitalent.org.
  • Manage applicants:  Includes employee recruitment, collecting application and resumes on your behalf, pre-screening resumes based on minimum standards, and conducting pre-hire assessments.
  • Training resources: On-the-Job Training (OJT) reimbursement, training support for existing talent, apprenticeship training reimbursement, and identifying training providers.
  • Partnerships: Collaboration with economic developers, trainers, centers of educational and agricultural employment specialists, new business and plant employee start-up services, track economic and talent trends, and assistance with tax credits.
